Answer: A functioning suspension ('springing') system, as the rule specifically requires

Rule 165 of the Motor Vehicles Rules, headed 'Springing', requires every motor vehicle and every trailer it draws to be equipped with suspension, a basic roadworthiness requirement.

  2. A driver sees a vehicle ahead that is itself in the process of overtaking a third, slower vehicle. What should the driver behind generally do, applying the Tenth Schedule's conditions?

    1. Flash their headlights and push through the gap between the two vehicles
    2. Attempt to overtake both vehicles at once regardless of the road ahead
    3. Sound the horn to force the vehicle ahead to abandon its overtaking manoeuvre, regardless of the time of day or night, without regard to the driver's length of experience
    4. Hold back rather than start their own overtaking manoeuvre, since doing so risks causing danger or inconvenience to the traffic already involved in that manoeuvre
    Show the answer

Answer: Hold back rather than start their own overtaking manoeuvre, since doing so risks causing danger or inconvenience to the traffic already involved in that manoeuvre

Given the Tenth Schedule's prohibition on overtaking where it is likely to cause danger or inconvenience to other traffic proceeding in any direction, starting a fresh overtaking manoeuvre into a situation already occupied by another vehicle's overtaking manoeuvre plainly fails that test.

  3. Under section 16(1-A), what may a licensing authority do if a person has been the subject of a disqualification order (or a section 18 declaration) on more than one occasion?

    1. Refer the matter to the National Assembly
    2. Automatically extend the disqualification by exactly one week
    3. Cancel the licence already granted and disqualify the person for holding or obtaining a licence for such period as it thinks fit
    4. Nothing further can be done beyond the existing disqualification, in keeping with ordinary administrative convention, according to the usual practice of the licensing authority
    Show the answer

Answer: Cancel the licence already granted and disqualify the person for holding or obtaining a licence for such period as it thinks fit

Section 16(1-A) allows a licensing authority, after a hearing, to cancel the licence granted to a person and disqualify them for holding or obtaining a licence for such period as it thinks fit, once an order or declaration against them has been made on more than one occasion.
