  1. Two cars reach a four-way stop at the same moment. Which car goes first?

    1. The larger vehicle, since it needs more time and distance to get started
    2. The car going straight, even if the other car is the one on the right side
    3. The car on the right, after yielding to any vehicle that stopped before them
    4. The car on the left, because it has the shorter path through the intersection

Answer: The car on the right, after yielding to any vehicle that stopped before them

If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the driver on the left gives way to the one on the right (N.J.S.A. 39:4-90), after each has stopped as the sign requires (N.J.S.A. 39:4-144(a)).

    4. In a marked parking space with a valid permit

The statute lists places where stopping or parking is barred, such as in front of a driveway, in an intersection, on a crosswalk or sidewalk, on a bridge or in a tunnel, and alongside a vehicle already stopped at the curb (N.J.S.A. 39:4-138).

  3. How far from a railroad crossing must a driver stop when the lights are flashing, bells are ringing or gates are lowered?

    1. At least 50 feet from the crossing
    2. At least 100 feet from the crossing
    3. At least 15 feet from the crossing
    4. At least 3 feet from the crossing
    Show the answer

Answer: At least 15 feet from the crossing

Where a signal device, a lowered gate or an approaching train gives warning, a driver must stop within 50 feet but not less than 15 feet from the nearest rail and not proceed until it is safe to do so (N.J.S.A. 39:4-127.1(a)).
